The Last Supper!

"While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is my body."Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins."

Matthew 26:26-28

On Thursday we celebrated the Last Supper! Can you even imagine what it must of been like to be there, sitting next to Jesus! The very first "Last Supper" was celebrated the night before Jesus would be crucified on the cross. It was also the same day of passover. I thought it would be fun to do a passover meal with the boys, so they could experience some of the foods that Jesus might of had that night. The whole purpose of me celebrating Holy Week with the boys is so that they can experience it, so they can appreciate it a little more, and so that they will get it! I do hands on things with them, so that it will be etched into their precious little minds, and forever hidden in their hearts! Our Precious Savior came just for us!! What a precious gift! I want my boys to know how precious it is! So we celebrated the last supper together. Here are some of the foods they eat and why.

Matzah, Unleavened Bread, this is eaten to remember how the Jews had to bake bread quickly to take with them before fleeing from Egypt! For the Last Supper, the unleavened bread represents Christ's body broken for us!

Roasted lamb- Served in memory of the lamb sacrificed by Israelites the night before their flight from Egypt.

Roasted Egg-Served in mourning for the destroyed temple.

Maror, bitter herbs-These are placed in the middle of the table as a reminder of the bitterness of slavery in Egypt.

Charoset- This symbolized the mortar the Jews used in building while in captivity in Egypt.

Salt Water-This signifies the Red Sea, which miraculously parted to let the Israelites cross.

Karpar, greens- The word Karpar mean 600,000, the recorded number of Jews who left Egypt.

Grape Juice or Wine- This represents the joy that was complete when the Israelites were out of bondage. The Last Supper, the grape juice represents Christ's blood shed for our sins!

Elijah's cup- A treasured cup is filled with wine and placed on the table to await the arrival of the Messiah!!!

We let the boys eat off of our china and use our crystal to drink out of letting them know this was a very special dinner! Jaxson loved it and asked if we could have a last supper again tomorrow night. Earlier in the day Jantzen kept asking me questions, "Mom, tell me about the last supper! Mom, tell me about Jesus eating with His disciples! Mom, tell me more stories about Jesus!!" Oh, it warmed my heart to see his sweet little desire to want to know more. I know it warmed the Lords heart even more as He sees His children, who He created for His glory, desire to want to know Him more!! The boys both prayed while we took the Unleavened Bread and the Grape Juice! Jax prayed, "God thank you for sending Jesus to die for us!" Thank you Lord, continue to grow these boys up to KNOW You SEEK You and FOLLOW You!!!
